BRYANT DENNY HEAD END
PROJECT: Bryant Denny Head End
LOCATION: Tuscaloosa, AL
OWNER: Verizon Wireless / AT&T & University of Alabama
ARCHITECT: Davis Architects
DATE COMPLETED: September 2018
BUILDING AREA: 2,250 SF
PROJECT SCOPE: This project was a joint endeavor by Verizon and AT&T to improve wireless coverage during heavy game day loads. Coordination between both carriers, the University, and the Architect was critical for completion of the project.
The project consisted of a two-story CMU structure built into the existing concrete superstructure of Bryant Denny Stadium, the renowned University of Alabama Football Stadium. Special considerations were made to ensure the brick, precast, and caulking matched the existing stadium additions previously completed. The project also included an 11-foot wide precast concrete medallion with the "Alabama Crimson Tide" motto and "Rocking A", which weighed over 8,000 lbs.
The interior of the building was approximately 45' x 25' and included a ships ladder to the second floor which was constructed with embedded steel supports, metal decking, and a concrete floor.
The build-out included 60 tons of roof-mounted HVAC, all electrical and lighting, including a 450 kVA transformer, and the matching black decorative fencing. To ensure operation by the start of football season, Abuck coordinated with Verizon and AT&T to allow the interior equipment build-out contractors to begin before substation completion, resulting in a highly successful project.
